JUST ANNOUNCED: BEING AS AN OCEAN [USA] AUSSIE TOUR!

Established in Alpine, California  only a little over a year ago, post-hardcore giants BEING AS AN OCEAN are making waves with the massive worldwide reception to last year’s debut full length, Dear G-d.

Acclaimed for their emotional grit and knack for hard-hitting lyrics, the Californian quintet set themselves apart from the pack with a raw sensibility that, according to InVogue Records owner Nick Moore, “offers a completely different style to my line up and I’m lucky to have them”

Already successfully touring the US and Europe on a constant schedule, BEING AS AN OCEAN show no signs of slowing down as they bring the passion and energy of their live show to Australia for the very first time this August.

Presented by Taperjean Music, Select Music and Hysteria Magazine, BEING AS AN OCEAN will engage with its audience in a series of 18+ and all ages shows down the nation’s east coast. JUST ANNOUNCED: THE GIVEN THINGS: JULY TOUR!

The Given Things started life in 2012 as a group of mates who were in between bands that just wanted to play music that was more than anything, fun. The philosophy from the get go was ‘Stop trying to please everyone else and just please yourself’.

Hailing from Brisbane and featuring ex members from The Butterfly Effect and Kate Miller-Heidke the chemistry was instantaneous…

All of this has lead to bunch of rollicking, sexy, dirty rock songs featuring big riffs layered with big vocals. Queen meets Queens of the Stone Age if you will. Comparisons have also been drawn with Alice in Chains and Clutch. After recording with Jeff Lovejoy (Powderfinger, Tex Perkins) in March, the guys launched their debut EP to a sold-out Crowbar in April.

The incendiary live show will be on full display this July when the guys launch the EP around the country –

July 5 - The Bald Faced Stag Sydney (w/Bare Bones)

With their collective achievements and experience, The Given Things are on the rise…

The Given Things are - Clint Boge (vocals), Glenn Esmond and Nathan Moore (guitars), Steve Pope (drums) and Brenton Page (bass)

JUST ANNOUNCED: THE PROTOMEN (USA)

The Protomen (USA) + Maux Faux + MC Frontalot (USA)

The Protomen are more than just a rock band from the USA. They are messengers, riding atop an Iron Stallion on their way to deliver the most vicious rock ‘n’ roll fable that the world has ever known. With several planned concept albums, and a live show that could crumble mountains, The Protomen are an unstoppable force of rock n’ roll awesome. Joining them for both shows will be problem-solving hip-hop USA artist MC Frontalot - who has been crushing the game since 1999. Front has been seen around the world on every media platform that can handle visual technology for his appearances on various documentaries, shorts, and TV specials. Recently, he was a judge on “King of the Nerds,” which was aired on one of USA’s largest networks, TBS. Both artists are headliners of this year’s PAX Australia 3-day event held in Melbourne, which has already sold out at over 35,000 attendees. Opening the shows will be Sydney fuss-pop outfit Maux Faux, whose Weezer-meets-Beck-inspired indie rock hits are the perfect antidote to the anthemic American rock group.

60s PSYCHEDELICA W/ FLIPPED OUT KICKS - JUNE 7TH

Flipped Out Kicks to debut at Bald Faced Stag.

Psychelic-punk rockers Flipped Out Kicks will make their long-awaited debut performance at the Bald Faced Stag hotel in Leichhardt on Friday June 7.

The band, which comprises respected local musicians Tim Knuckey (Satellite V, Wet Taxis) and Jonny Gretsch (Wasted Ones), has compiled an eclectic set drawn from little known 1960s classics, featuring plenty of guitar reverb, tremelo and fuzz.

The Flipped Out Kicks set is a veritable “best of” sixties obscurities, covering artists from Captain Beefheart, the 13th Floor Elevators, and Texas punk groups such as Mouse and the Traps and the Zakary Thaks.

“Our aim is to split the atom of rock in a one hour set,” says Lachlan Colquhoun, the bass player and founder of the Flipped Out Kicks.

“There are so many classic – and little known - songs from the period and we’re having a great time in bringing them back to life, and combining them all in what we reckon is power set.”

Flipped Out Kicks will be supported by the Missing Link, who take their inspiration from legendary surf guitarist Link Wray, and original indie band the Lovely Assistants.

To begin the evening, Jonny and Tim’s rockabilly duo The Wheelnuts will warm up the crowd.

SATURDAY 27 JULY – BALD FACED STAG (THE WALL) SYDNEY LIC/AA
Tickets available MAY 23RD at www.oztix.com.au | www.taperjeanmusic.com | www.gobookem.com

-

Boston’s finest pop punk merchants A LOSS FOR WORDS have firmly set their sights on Australia for their first ever tour this July/ August.

In a world where some bands are handed everything on a silver platter, there’s also a place for the hardworking acts hitting the road over 300 days of the year. A LOSS FOR WORD’S fit in this category, possessing an unrivalled work ethic, dedication and passion for their craft.

This ethos is evident in A LOSS FOR WORD’S sophomore album ‘ No Sanctuary’ showcasing the band at their infectious best with absolutepunk declaring ‘ they’re carving their own path’ 8/10.
Possessing one of the most sweat –soaked and honest live shows going around with their unpretentious and passionate delivery A LOSS FOR WORDS are set to tear Australia apart.

Joining A LOSS FOR WORDS on their Australian tour will be Perth punk act, MONUMENTS.

Having released an EP and split (with UK act Save Your Breath) in the last 18 months, MONUMENTS headed to Boston earlier this year to record their debut full length with Jay Maas of Defeater.

Titled Existence, the eleven-track effort will see the light of the day this August, through the group’s own Hindsight Records label, with the album’s lead cut “Howl” - featuring James Carroll of Make Do And Mend - premiering this Wednesday (May 22nd) on Triple J’s Short Fast Loud.

Rounding out the bill are Melbourne pop punk upstarts SIDELINES who have been hard at work crafting their sound over the last 12 months crafting their sound. The results are their debut EP ‘Progression’ which will be released nationally in July.

ON SALE NOW: LIME SPIDERS

The Lime Spiders tore the roof off the Enmore Theatre at the Dig It Up Festival, and managed to stun certain sections of the media and general public in the process. Some long time fans rated the gig as the best they had seen in the band’s 35 year history. Next up we’re bringing our special garage punk brand of sonic mayhem to the Bald Faced Stag on 8th June. Age has not wearied us, in fact we’re louder and more raucous than ever. You’ll never find us slumped in the corner of an inner city pub wearing cowboy hats and limply strumming Country and Western pap, oh no. Recently conscripted powerhouse drummer Tom Corben joins stalwarts Mick Blood, Ged Corben and Tony Bambach  to create one of the gnarliest Spiders lineups ever. We’ll be blasting through our classic numbers and throwing in a couple of lesser known and new numbers just to keep punters on their toes.

Power pop super group Hey Charger are reforming especially for the occasion. With rock resumes as long as your arm, these dudes have spent time in quality outfits such as The New Christs, The Eastern Dark, The Vanilla Chainsaws and The Lemonheads. Featuring bubble gum chewing rock journeymen Alan Creed, Bill Gibson and Peter Kelly, Hey Charger will be playing their first gig in 17 years.

77 Sunset Strippers will be kicking off proceedings. This hard rockin and even harder living outfit will be ripping through their collection of party favourites.
